Managing Abandoned Cart Recovery

Go!BrightCart can track abandoned carts, send recovery reminders, restore saved carts for buyers, and show recovery performance back in the seller dashboard.

What recovery includes

  • automatic abandoned-cart email touches
  • optional final-touch recovery incentive
  • restored-cart links that bring buyers back into their saved session
  • manual resend controls for seller follow-up
  • recovery metrics in the dashboard and analytics pages

Before recovery can work

Recovery works best when all of these are true:

  • the cart has been inactive long enough to be marked abandoned
  • the cart still has recoverable value
  • a buyer email has been captured
  • the cart still belongs to an active store

If no buyer email is on file, Go!BrightCart cannot send a recovery reminder for that cart.

Default recovery behavior

By default, carts are marked abandoned after 24 hours of inactivity.

Once a cart is abandoned, the default sequence is:

  • Touch 1 when the cart first enters the abandoned state
  • Touch 2 after 24 hours
  • Touch 3 after 72 hours

Recovery incentives are not enabled by default. Store Health asks every seller to explicitly choose one of these policies:

  • no automated recovery emails
  • reminder emails without a discount
  • secure, cart-bound recovery incentives

Customize the sequence

Open Store Settings → Conversion & Revenue to manage the recovery sequence for a store.

From there you can adjust:

  • the delay for touch 2
  • the delay for touch 3
  • whether recovery is disabled, reminder-only, or uses secure incentives
  • one or more incentive tiers based on minimum and maximum cart subtotal
  • a percentage or fixed-amount discount for each tier
  • an optional maximum discount cap
  • how long each issued incentive stays valid

Plan note

All stores benefit from abandoned-cart handling, restored-cart continuity, and seller cart visibility.

Custom recovery timing requires Scale or above. Every plan can decide whether recovery emails and incentives are used; opting out is never plan-gated.

How the final-touch incentive works

When secure incentives are enabled, Go!BrightCart keeps system-managed discount rules in sync with the recovery tiers for that store. Each final-touch email receives a separate expiring grant tied to its cart and buyer.

That means:

  • changing a tier updates its managed discount rule
  • removing a tier or turning incentives off disables the corresponding managed rule
  • internal tier labels such as COMEBACK10 cannot be entered as public promo codes
  • the recovery link, not the label, authorizes the discount
  • expiration is enforced when the link is opened and again before checkout

Tier labels must remain unique within the store so reporting stays unambiguous.

Manual seller follow-up

Open Dashboard → Carts to review abandoned carts, recovered carts, and cart detail pages.

From the cart detail page you can:

  • see the buyer email on file
  • review the recovery timeline
  • resend the latest recovery email manually when a buyer needs a fresh reminder

Manual resends are protected to avoid accidental spam:

  • one resend per cart every 15 minutes
  • maximum 2 manual resends per cart per 24 hours

Manual resend is available only when the cart is abandoned and the buyer email is already captured.

What buyers see when they return

Recovery links send buyers back into a saved session instead of starting over.

Depending on what is available, the buyer may land on:

  • the hosted storefront
  • the first recoverable product page in that store

If the recovery email includes an incentive, its secure grant is validated and attached to the restored cart. The raw grant token is not stored in browser cart state, and Stripe receives the already-discounted line-item prices rather than a separate Stripe promotion code.

Measuring recovery performance

Use these seller views to understand whether recovery is working:

  • Dashboard overview for a quick recovery snapshot
  • Dashboard → Carts for abandoned and recovered cart review
  • Dashboard → Analytics for recovery metrics over a selected period

The analytics view highlights:

  • abandoned carts in the selected cohort
  • recovered carts and recovery rate
  • recovered revenue
  • discount-assisted recoveries
  • open abandoned carts still needing follow-up
  • average recovery time once enough data exists

Practical tips

  • Capture buyer email early in the shopping flow when possible.
  • Keep recovery incentives reserved for genuinely at-risk carts instead of using them as a default discount strategy.
  • Review abandoned carts regularly so manual resends stay intentional.
  • Compare recovered revenue against discount-assisted orders to see whether incentives are helping or just reducing margin.
